OUTDOOR CREATIVITY WORKSHOP
Printing with LEGO
Saturday, October 11th, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Panola Mountain State Park
A silver lining of the pandemic was exploring the outdoors with my family. I’ve always loved spending time outside. I’ve lived in Atlanta my whole life, but somehow I never realized that metro Atlanta includes a ton of “nature.” During the pandemic, my family visited state parks, nature preserves, parks, lakes, beaches, and more. Most of these locations were within a 15 minute drive of our home in East Atlanta. We also enjoyed many road trips to explore nature in other parts of Georgia. Panola Mountain became one of my favorite nature destinations during this time and I’d love to share it with you.
Being outside clears my head giving plenty of space for creativity. In this workshop we’ll participate in a hands-on art project and writing prompts while enjoying time outside that will include a walk in a serene outdoor environment.
During our time together we will:
Walk/Hike
Create
Who should take this workshop?
People who…
Need a creative boost to get back into it
Need a creative boost to start a new creativity practice
Want to meet other creative people in Atlanta
Want to get outside more and need a little push
Love being outside
This will be a small workshop with less than 10 participants.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
We are going to explore printing with LEGO. I’ll bring a ton of LEGO Dots so we can print fun designs. I’ll have design suggestions to get you started, and there will be plenty of time to mess around and experiment with your own designs. Time permitting, we will experiment with other non-traditional printing supplies.
I’m at my happiest when I’m creating. It kind of doesn’t even matter what I’m making. I may or may not like the outcome, but the time I spend using my hands and heart and creativity are the moments that have the biggest impact on my day-to-day well-being. Twenty minutes of doodling and trying out some new markers = a whole afternoon of good spirits! The emphasis of this workshop will be play, experimenting, and having fun!
ABOUT THE WALK:
Panola Mountain State Park - this walk is easy. It is 3/4 mile along a path through the woods. It is unpaved and sometimes uneven. There are slight inclines in a few places. We’ll probably stop to take photos or observe or chat! The walk will probably take 30-45 minutes. Wear good walking shoes. I usually wear Vans or other tennis shoes.

“I didn’t even know how much I needed the creative recharge I got from Christy’s workshop. I do a pretty good job of making time for my creative practice every day, so I thought I was set, but Christy brought so many new ideas and encouragement to the table (along with fun new art supplies). I would definitely recommend her workshops to any one looking for a creative boost.”

“Christy’s outdoor creativity workshop is such a delight! I so rarely get a chance to slow down, connect with nature, and tap into the playful side of creativity. This class was the perfect reminder to take time to nurture that side of myself, and she gave us helpful tools and prompts to do that!”

Meet Christy
Hi! I’ve taught hands-on creativity, art, and craft classes, workshops, and camps all over Atlanta. I was a Teaching Artist at the High Museum of Art for 10+ years, and I’ve also taught hands-on creativity workshops, activities, and camps at MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta), Clubhouse Kid & Craft, Atlanta Public Schools, Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony, Purpose Possible, Little Art School, Art on the Beltline, Paradise Garden, Agnes Scott College, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and more!
Additionally, I’ve hosted my own workshops and retreats through the Indie Craft Experience, which I co-founded in 2005 and co-owned until 2023. I’ve been an artist/crafter/maker since I was old enough to pick up a pencil and use scissors (so something like 45-ish years!).
I love sharing ideas and techniques with others, and I believe workshops are a great way to re-charge your creativity. I’m my absolute happiest when I’m making and creating. I hope to pass this joy and happiness along to others.
I look forward to making art with you!
-Christy
